The 2009 scholarship application will be availalbe online in early April, 2009

This scholarship was established to provide merit-based scholarships to students who are not eligible for financial need-based scholarships, yet who are in need of financial help to attend college. It is available to seniors graduating from high schools in Cumberland County and enrolling at an accredited institution of higher learning within six month of application. Students must rank in the top 10% of their graduating class. 

No child, grandchild, stepchild or step grandchild of a member of the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville is eligible for this scholarship.

1. The following will be used in selecting the applicants: 
Scholarship: Student must have demonstrated scholastic excellence.

  • Leadership: Student must have assumed leadership roles in the school or community and have the capacity to lead and motivate fellow students.

  • Character: Student must have set a positive example for others and have the personal strength to do what is right without capitulating to the majority opinion. He or she must have demonstrated the highest levels of integrity, honesty, and conscientiousness.

  • Service: Student must have been involved in volunteer service to the school and community through such means as school clubs and faith-based organizations.


2. Applications should be typed or legibly printed in ink.

3. Submit one original application. 

4. Only one official transcript is required. 

5. Three different letters of recommendation in support of your application should be forwarded by the person writing the letter to the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville, Post Office Box 53735, Fayetteville, NC 28305. Use the reference form included with this application. You may also enclose letters of recommendation in sealed, tamper evident envelopes with your application and supporting materials. 

6. Submit your responses to the scholarship essay question (200 words or less) on a separate sheet of plain white paper. The question is: Why do I meet the selection criteria for this scholarship? Your responses must be typed. 

7. Do not staple your application materials. Please use paperclips only. 

8. By the deadline – April 16, 2008 (postmarked), send completed application, transcripts, and additional materials required to:
